Anne Hunter heads HunterSage for Nonprofits, a national strategy group committed to building thriving, more equitable communities. Formerly known as HunterSage Marketing, the 20-year-old firm has elevated its work to strategic planning, broadened its scope of services to all things nonprofit, and narrowed its focus to nonprofits, social enterprises and public-sector clients.
Before relaunching HunterSage, Anne led the curriculum development team of a $12M ed-tech startup charged with reinventing technical education in America. In 2019, she served as interim president of the $10M Minnesota Humanities Center.
Anne and her colleagues have helped hundreds of clients across the country – including 90 nonprofit organizations – to advance their missions by more deeply engaging the communities they serve. HunterSage provides strategic direction to a wide range of organizations, including arts, education, economic development and civic engagement.
Early in her career, Anne held marketing management posts at The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, and chambers of commerce in two states. Her vita also includes work as a journalist and published author. In 2000, she ghost-wrote a book on workplace intervention for Hazelden Foundation.
Anne holds an MBA from the University of St. Thomas in Saint Paul, where she taught in the Center for Nonprofit Management for 15 years. She earned a BA from Albion College in Michigan and served three terms on its board of trustees. She has taught in the Master of Nonprofit Management Program at Hamline University and has been an adjunct at both Metropolitan State University and Gustavus Adolphus College. She also is a founding faculty member of ArtsLab, a nationally recognized capacity building program for small arts organizations in the Midwest.
Anne is a life-long community servant, having held board leadership roles with COMPAS, which delivers creative experiences to under-served schools and communities in Minnesota; the Volunteer Resource Center (now HandsOn Twin Cities); The Chamber Music Society of Minnesota; the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council (MRAC); and Murphy’s Landing Living History Museum.
She currently serves on the boards of the Page Education Foundation, which provides college scholarships to Minnesota students of color, and IX Art Park, an interactive space in downtown Charlottesville that is all about the power of collective creativity.
A one-time marathoner, Anne believes in stretch goals. In 2001, she trekked to the base camp of Mt. Everest. In her free time, she enjoys theater, running, curling, portrait drawing and antiquing.
